Kittilä started in Lahti for the first time in the cross-country skiing world cup in March 2002 and finished 72nd in the 15 km freestyle. He got his first World Cup points in March 2005 in Lahti with 28th place in the sprint. Since 2005 he has mainly participated in the Nordic Scandinavian Cup . He achieved his best placement in Lapinlahti in February 2005 with fourth place in the sprint. In October 2007 he achieved his best result in the individual World Cup with 21st place in the sprint in Düsseldorf . He finished third at Finnish championships in 2009 and second in 2015 over 50 km freestyle. At the beginning of January 2012 he achieved second place over 50 km classic second at the Vasaloppet China . In his first World Championship participation at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti, he came 42nd in the 50 km mass start race. In April 2017, he became Finnish champion over 50 km freestyle in Ylitornio .
