Two years later they reached the final. In Aachen, however, the dominant team of those years proved to be too strong: Bayer Leverkusen won 23:12. 1985/86, in the first year of the single-track Bundesliga, the second runner-up: behind Bayer Leverkusen (33: 3), VfL Engelskirchen finished second with 28: 8 points. There was another runner-up in the European Cup Winners' Cup: In 1984 "the little angels", as they were also called, were defeated by the Yugoslav representative Dalma Split.

In 1989 the bitter end: VfL Engelskirchen had to withdraw from the Bundesliga for financial reasons and sank into the insignificance of the district league. In addition, over the years the youth work had been neglected. In contrast to the handball department at VfL Engelskirchen, the handball department in ASC Loope was still healthy. After tough negotiations, the founding contract for the formation of the SG Engelskirchen-Loope handball community was signed on May 8, 1991 and approved by the Mittelrhein Handball Association. From 1993 to 1995 the club belonged to the Regionalliga West for two years. In the 2007/08 season, the SG finished second in the Oberberg district league with 26: 6 points.
