Spartak Kiev
Spartak Kiev is a women's handball club from the Ukrainian capital Kiev .
In 1959 Ihor Turchyn began to train handball with a group of beginners in Kiev , from which the team of Spartak Kiev was founded in 1962. Ihor Turtschyn directed and coached the club from 1993 until his death in 1993. Subsequently, his wife Sinajida Turtschyna , who was a player in the club, took over its management.
In its heyday in the 1970s and 1980s, Spartak Kiev was considered to be the best European club, during which time it was able to win the European Cup, today's Champions League , thirteen times . After Spartak Kiev had stood in the final of the “European premier class” against Hypo Niederösterreich in 1989 for the last time , the club in the now independent Ukraine was no longer able to continue its old successes. The last participation in the Champions League took place in 2001, last season the club reached the third round in the EHF Cup .
