European Cup Winners' Cup (handball) 1996/97

On EHF UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1996/97 34 took Handball part -Vereinsmannschaften, who qualified in the previous season in their home countries in the cup competition for the competition. It was the 22nd edition of the European Cup Winners' Cup. The defending champion was the German club TBV Lemgo . The cup games began on September 1, 1996 and ended with the second final game on April 19, 1997. In the final, the Spanish club Elgorriaga Bidasoa was able to prevail against the Hungarian representative KC Veszprém .

mode

The competition started with two games in one elimination round. The winners advanced to the sixteenth finals, in which other, higher ranked teams entered. All rounds including the final were carried out in a knockout system with a return leg. The winner of the final was the European Cup Winners' Cup of the 1996/97 season.
