Gottlob Binder (born August 14, 1885 in Holzgerlingen , † August 16, 1961 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending school, Binder completed training as a saddler and upholsterer. He later worked as an upholsterer. He was involved in trade unions, in 1908 he became secretary at the free trade unions in Cologne and later worked in the same function in Bielefeld . From 1918 he was chairman of the board of the building cooperative Freie Scholle eG in Bielefeld. He was also a member of supervisory boards and management committees of various regional and supra-regional organizations in local government and the welfare and welfare sector.

Binder joined the SPD before the First World War . He was a council member of the city ​​of Bielefeld from 1915 and from 1919 to 1933 .

After the National Socialists came to power, Binder was briefly placed in " protective custody ". Then he returned to Ilbeshausen . From 1942 he lived under the surveillance of the Gestapo in Frankfurt am Main .

After the Second World War , Binder was employed from June to October 1945 as director of the employment office in Frankfurt am Main and as president of the state employment office in Hesse .

On November 1, 1945, Binder was appointed Hessian "State Minister for Reconstruction and Political Adjustment" by the US military government and was thus a member of the state government headed by Prime Minister Karl Geiler . On August 16, 1946, his department was renamed the “Ministry for Reconstruction and Political Liberation” (in accordance with the “Law for the Liberation from National Socialism and Militarism of March 5, 1946” see denazification ). From January 7, 1947 to November 9, 1949, he then only served as "Minister for Political Liberation" in the state government led by Prime Minister Christian Stock . At the same time he was President of the German Association for Housing, Urban Development and Spatial Planning.
