Bilopillja ( Ukrainian Білопілля ; Russian Белополье Belopolje , Polish Białopole ) is a city in the Ukrainian Sumy Oblast and the administrative seat of the Rajon of the same name with almost 18,000 inhabitants.
The municipality includes the villages of Kowalenky ( Коваленко ) and Sochany ( Сохани ) and the settlement of Peremoha ( Перемога ).
geography
The city in northern Ukraine lies on the banks of the Wyr , a 62 km long tributary of the Seim , 42 km northwest of the oblast capital Sumy .
history
The place was created in the Middle Ages and was granted Magdeburg city charter in 1644 . Today the city is a center of food production.
