Content

Regardless of their rank and ability, course participants begin their studies with the basic movements and are taught the basic Yoshinkan Aikido techniques in the curriculum. Classes are held in Japanese and English and are led by teachers from the Honbu Dojo. The Senshusei course teaches participants all the basics of Yoshinkan Aikido, Jiyūwaza , self-defense and teaching methods. Graduates of the course are usually awarded the Shodan (black belt) at the end if they have not already achieved this rank.

history

The Senshusei course was founded in 1957 by Shioda Gōzō . The one-year course was initially used to train some members of the Keishi-chō Kidōtai ( 警 視 庁 機動隊 , "mobile department" of the Tokyo Prefecture Police Department ) during a period of civil unrest in the 1960s . Every year, a certain number of members of the Tokyo Prefecture Police still take this course, but it was made available to candidates who do not belong to any police unit with the establishment of the International Yoshinkan Aikido Federation (IYAF) in 1991 . By opening the Senshusei course, IYAF wanted to offer authentic training in Japan to international society. The men and women who take the course these days are still largely from abroad. The modern curriculum is designed to develop consistent, effective Aikido and instill a strong spirit in its graduates. Senshusei course participants enjoy an experience similar to traditional Uchi-Deshi . The course has evolved from its original purpose as an instructor course to its current purpose with more emphasis on learning, training and mind development.

Many graduates of the program have continued teaching themselves and opening Yoshinkan - Dōjō in countries around the world including Australia, Canada, Israel, Germany, Portugal, the United Kingdom and the United States.
