Shioda Gōzō

Shioda Gōzō ( Japanese 塩 田 剛 三 ; born September 9, 1915 in the Shinjuku district in Tokyo , Japan ; † July 17, 1994 in Tokyo) was the founder of Yoshinkan Aikidō , for which he systematized Aikido techniques. The second son of the doctor Shioda Sei'ichi studied judo and kendo in his youth . Since 1932 he was a student at the Kobukan Dōjō , where he trained for eight years as Uchi-Deshi under Ueshiba Morihei . This awarded him the 9th Dan Aikido in 1961 . The 10th Dan Aikido Shioda was awarded in 1985 by the International Budo Federation. He was also one of the few holders of the Meijin title , the highest distinction a modern Budoka can receive.

During the Second World War he was stationed in China as a member of the Imperial Japanese Army until he returned to Japan in 1946.

In 1955 Shioda opened its own dojo in Tsukudo-Hachiman, Shinjuku . He was also the author of various books on martial arts in Japanese and English .
