Yamna Oubouhou (temporarily Oubouhou-Belkacem ; born February 20, 1974 in Morocco ) is a French long-distance runner .

Life

She came to France when she was ten. In 1996 she became French U23 champion over 1500 m for the third time in a row and set two national U23 records over 5000 m . At the European Cross Country Championships in Charleroi , she finished seventh and won gold with the team.

In 1997 she came in 62nd place at the Cross Country World Championships in Turin . At the European Cross Country Championships in Oeiras she was seventh again and defended the title with the team. The following year she finished 41st at the World Cross Country Championships in Marrakech on the long distance and was sixth at the European Cross Country Championships in Ferrara .

In 1999 she was fourth over 3000 m at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Maebashi and won silver in the individual standings and gold with the team at the World Cross Country Championships in Belfast on the short distance. In the summer she set a national record over 5000 m with 15: 04.85 min, which she improved to 15: 03.47 min as eighth at the World Athletics Championships in Seville .

In 2000 she was eleventh on the short distance at the World Cross Country Championships in Vilamoura and won bronze with the team. Over 5000 m, she set two other French records, but retired from the Olympic Games in Sydney in the preliminary run.

In the following season, she was seventh on the long distance at the World Cross Country Championships in Ostend and took bronze with the team. At the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton , she was eighth over 10,000 m , and at the European Cross Country Championships in Thun European champion.

Her divorce from her obstacle runner husband, Henri Belkacem , and financial worries subsequently led to depression , and in March 2003 she was hospitalized in Meaux after attempting suicide .

In 2004 she returned to competition and came in 29th place at the World Half Marathon Championships in New Delhi . At the European Cross Country Championships 2005 in Tilburg, she contributed with a 17th place to the bronze medal win of the team.

In 2008 she was second in the Cannes half marathon and eleventh in the Paris marathon and came in 38th place at the World Half Marathon Championships in Rio de Janeiro . In 2009 she finished fourth in the Paris Half Marathon and finished 55th in the marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Berlin .

So far, she has been French champion twice over 1500 m (1999, 2000), once over 10,000 m (2001), twice in cross-country running (2000, 2004) and once in half marathon (2008). In 1999 she won the national title over 3000 m indoors.

Yamna Oubouhou is 1.64 m tall and weighs 48 kg. She starts for the CS Meaux.
