Nikandros Stylianou (born August 22, 1989 in Limassol ) is a Cypriot pole vaulter who occasionally competes in the 110-meter hurdles .

Athletic career

Nikandros Stylianou gained his first international experience at the Junior European Championships 2007 in Hengelo , where he was eliminated in the final without a valid height. He then won the bronze medal at the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) in Fontvieille with 4.70 m. In 2008 he took part in the Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz , Poland , where he was eliminated with 4.90 m in qualification. In 2009 he won the gold medal at the GSSE in Nicosia with 4.80 m. In 2010 Stylianou took part in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi for the first time and finished fifth there with 5.25 m. In 2011 he won the gold medal again at the GSSE in Schaan with 5.00 m, but was eliminated from the qualification at the U23 European Championships in Ostrava with 4.95 m. This was followed by participation in the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen , where he finished fifth with 5.35 m.

In 2012 he qualified for the European Championships in Helsinki and was eliminated there without a valid amount in the qualification. In 2013 he was eliminated from the qualification at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg with 5.40 m. He then won gold for the third time at the GSSE in Luxembourg and did not cross any height at the Mediterranean Games in Mersin . In 2014 he finished fifth at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with 5.35 m and once again failed to cross a height at the European Championships in Zurich . In 2015 he won his fourth gold at the GSSE in Reykjavík with 5.15 m.

In 2017 he won gold in the pole vault at the GSSE in Serravalle , as well as in the 110-meter hurdles, in his first official race ever. In 2018 he finished seventh at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast with 5.35 s.

In 2010 and 2011, as well as in 2016 and 2017, Stylianou was the Cypriot champion in the pole vault.
