Sultana Frizell (born October 24, 1984 in Perth , Ontario ) is a Canadian hammer thrower who occasionally competed in the shot put .
Athletic career
Sultana Frizell gained her first international experience at the Pan American Junior Championships 2003 in Bridgetown , where she finished fifth in hammer throw with 55.25 m and sixth with the ball with 13.98 m. The following year she won the bronze medal at the U23 NACAC championships in Sherbrooke with 57.38 m and finished fifth in the shot put with 13.72 m. In 2005 she took part in both competitions at the Summer Universiade in Izmir and was eliminated from the qualification with 13.30 m and 59.03 m respectively. At the U23 NACAC Championships in Santo Domingo in 2006 , she won the bronze medal in the shot put with 15.18 m and was fourth with a hammer with a width of 60.61 m. In 2007 she took part for the first time in the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro and finished seventh with a throw of 63.25 m. The following year she qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing , where she was eliminated with 65.44 m in the preliminary round.
In 2009 she was ranked tenth at the World Championships in Berlin with 70.88 m. The following year she won the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi with a new player record of 68.57 m and in 2011 she won the silver medal behind Cuban Yipsi Moreno at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara with a throw of 70.11 m . In 2012 he again took part in the Olympic Games in London and retired again with 67.45 m in qualification , as well as at the World Championships in Moscow the following year with 69.06 m. Then she was in the games of Francophonie with 67.85 m fourth. In 2014 she improved her own player record at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to 71.97 m, winning for the second time. The following year she won the Pan American Games in Toronto with 69.51 m, the bronze medal behind the Venezuelan Rosa Rodríguez and Amber Campbell from the United States. So she qualified for the World Championships in Beijing, where she was eliminated with 69.66 m in the preliminary round. In 2018 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the third time and finished fourth with a width of 63.94 m.
In 2007 and 2008 as well as 2010, 2013 and 2014 as well as 2015 and 2017, Frizell was the Canadian hammer throw champion. She graduated from the University of Georgia .
