Nathan James Douglas (born December 4, 1982 in Oxford ) is a British triple jumper .

Athletic career

Nathan Douglas gained his first international experience at the U23 European Championships 2003 in Bydgoszcz , where he was eliminated with 15.68 m in qualification. In 2004 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens , but retired with 16.84 m in the first round . The following year he was fourth with 16.89 m at the European Indoor Championships in Madrid in 2005 , but did not come at the World Championships in Helsinki with 16.53 m beyond the qualifying round. In 2006 he was seventh at the World Indoor Championships in Moscow with 17.05 m and won the silver medal at the European Championships in Gothenburg behind the Swede Christian Olsson with 17.21 m .

After another silver medal at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham in 2007 , in which he had to admit defeat only his compatriot Phillips Idowu with 17.47 m , he had to struggle with injuries. Although he managed to set the standard for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 , he failed there with 16.72 m in qualification . At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin and at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona , he was tenth, starting for England at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi , fourth with 16.96 m.

After a two-year break, he won the bronze medal at the 2013 European Team Championship in Gateshead with 16.45 m. In 2014 he was 11th at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with 14.56 m. In 2016 he was able to qualify again for the European Championships in Amsterdam , but retired there with 16.33 m in the qualification. In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the third time , finishing fifth there with 16.35 m.

In 2004 and 2005, as well as in 2016 and 2018, Douglas was British champion in the outdoor triple jump and in 2006, 2007 and 2018 indoors. He is a graduate of Loughborough University
