Eleni Artymata ( Greek Ελένη Αρτυματά ; * May 16, 1986 in Paralimni ) is a Cypriot sprinter .

Athletic career

Eleni Artymata gained her first international experience in 2001 at the World Youth Championships in Debrecen , where she was eliminated in the first round of the 200-meter run with 26.02 seconds. In 2003 she won the bronze medal at the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) in 24.91 seconds behind her compatriot Marilia Gregoriou and Sunna Gestsdóttir from Iceland. Then she got at the Youth World Championships in Sherbrooke over 200 meters to the semi-finals and was eliminated there with 24.86 s. Two years later she won the Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra la Vella in 11.67 s in the 100-meter run and in 23.98 s over 200 meters. She then took part for the first time in the Mediterranean Games in Almería and was there in 11.76 s fifth over 100 meters and came fourth over 200 meters in 23.82 s. Then she won the bronze medal over 100 meters at the Junior European Championships in Kaunas in 11.74 s and reached fifth place over 200 meters in 23.83 s. In 2006 she reached the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne over 100 meters to the semi-finals, in which she was eliminated with 11.84 s, as well as over 200 meters with 24.21 s. Then she reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Gothenburg over 200 meters and was eliminated there with 23.93 s.

In 2007 she won the GSSE in Monaco in 11.58 seconds over 100 meters and in 23.39 seconds over 200 meters. Then she reached the U23 European Championships in Debrecen over 200 meters to the semi-finals, in which she was eliminated with 23.46 s. The following year she qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing and made it over 200 meters to the quarter-finals , where she was eliminated with 23.77 s. In 2009 she won the GSSE in Nicosia in 11.40 s and 23.34 s over 100 and 200 meters. She then won over 200 meters in 23.16 s and won the bronze medal over 100 meters in 11.55 s behind the Greek and French Myriam Soumaré . In addition, she qualified over 100 and 200 meters for the World Championships in Berlin , where she was eliminated in the semifinals over 100 meters with 11.49 s and finished eighth over 200 meters in 23.05 s. In 2010 she was fifth at the European Championships in Barcelona in 22.61 s over 200 meters. At the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi , she was the fastest in her semifinals over 200 meters, but was disqualified after a competitor protested for crossing her track. In addition, she was eliminated in the semifinals over 100 meters with 11.57 s.

After a year without competitions, she was eliminated from the 2012 European Championships in Helsinki over 100 meters with 11.64 s in the first round and was seventh over 200 meters in 23.59 s. So she qualified again for the Olympic Games in London , where she was eliminated with 22.92 s in the semi- finals. The following year she won the Mediterranean Games in Mersin in 23.18 s over 200 meters and won the bronze medal over 100 meters in 11.55 s behind the Italian Ilenia Draisci and Estela García from Spain. Also with the Cypriot 4 x 100 meter relay she won the silver medal behind Italy in 44.79 s. So she qualified over 200 meters for the World Championships in Moscow , where she finished with 24.07 s in the first round. Three years later she reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Amsterdam over 200 meters, in which she was eliminated with 23.58 s. In addition, she could not qualify for the final with 43.87 s with the relay. Then she retired at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with 23.27 s in the preliminary round .

Since then, Artymata has focused primarily on the 400-meter run and qualified for the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in 2017 , where he was eliminated in the first round with 54.31 seconds. Even during the outdoor season, she was able to increase over 400 meters and took part in the World Championships in London, where she was eliminated with 53.26 s in the lead . In 2018, she reached the semifinals in her fourth Commonwealt Games in the Australian Gold Coast over 400 meters, in which she was eliminated with 52.38 seconds. At the end of June she won the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona in 51.19 s over 400 meters and took fourth place in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 44.72 s. The following year she again took part in the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow and was eliminated there with 53.49 s in the lead. She also qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where she finished with 51.90 s in the preliminary round .

In 2007 and 2010 as well as in 2017 and 2018, Artymata became the Cypriot champion in the 200-meter run. In 2010 she won the 100 meters and from 2017 to 2019 in the 400 meter run.
