Aïda Sellam (born September 13, 1977 ) is a former Tunisian athlete who specializes in throwing the javelin .

Athletic career

Aïda Sellam gained her first international experience in 1994, when she won the bronze medal at the Junior African Championships in Algiers with a width of 36.28 m and then won the Arab Junior Championships in Tunis with a new championship record of 44.92 m. The following year she won the Junior African Championships in Bouaké with a throw of 47.38 m and finished sixth in the shot put with 10.68 m. In 1999 she won the silver medal behind the Syrian Ghada Shouaa at the Pan-Arab Games in Irbid with 48.69 m . She then took part in the Africa Games in Johannesburg for the first time , where she also won the silver medal with 48.91 m, this time behind South African Liezel Roux . The following year she won the gold medal at the African Championships in Algiers with a throw of 53.35 m. In 2001 she finished fourth at the Francophonie Games in Ottawa with 53.34 m and then reached fifth place at the Mediterranean Games in Radès with 53.23 m. In 2002 she defended her title at the African Championships there and set a new championship record with 55.46 m. Then she was eighth at the Athletics World Cup in Madrid with 52.48 m.

In 2003 she won the African Games in Abuja with a width of 54.58 m and the following year she won the silver medal behind South African Sunette Viljoen at the African Championships in Brazzaville with 54.68 m . She also qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens , but did not reach the final there with 57.76 m . In the same year she set a new national record in Tunis with 60.87 m and also won the Pan-Arab Games in Algiers with 58.64 m. In 2005 she took part again in the Mediterranean Games in Almería and was fourth there with 54.19 m. In 2007 she won the silver medal behind the Egyptian Hana'a Ramadhan Omar at the Arab Championships in Amman with 44.60 m . On June 12, 2011, she played her last competition in Brazzaville, ending her career at the age of 33.

In 2005 and 2010 Sellam became the Tunisian javelin champion.
