Umuahia is the capital of the Nigerian state Abia and is located in the south of Nigeria. According to an estimate from 2006, it has 274,992 inhabitants.

history

Umuahia was named the second capital of the Republic of Biafra on September 28, 1967 , after Enugu was occupied by Nigerian troops in the course of the Biafra War . Umuahia itself was retaken on April 22, 1969.

Economy and Infrastructure

Umuahia is on the Port Harcourt- Enugu railway line and has been a market for the region's agricultural products such as yams , cassava , corn , taro , citrus fruits and palm oil since 1916 . Umuahia is also home to the National War Museum , which exhibits relics from the Nigerian Civil War and World War II .
