The monastery Râmeț ( Roman . Mănăstirea Râmeț ) is a Romanian Orthodox monastery on the edge of the place Valea Mănăstirii in the Trascău Mountains ( Transylvania ).

According to various sources, it was founded in the 13th, 14th or 15th centuries.

During the 18th century, the monastery in Austria-Hungary , which was dominated by Catholicism, became a center of the Orthodox faith . It also housed a Romanian-speaking school.

In 1762, the complex was partially destroyed by Habsburg troops in retaliation for participating in an uprising. The monastery was not used again until after the Second World War .

In 1982 construction began on the new monastery church, which was consecrated in 1992. The monastery is currently inhabited by around 100 nuns . There is also a museum in the building which exhibits evidence of religious life over the centuries. Because of the history of the building - but also because of a strong religious national consciousness in Romania - the monastery is now a popular place of pilgrimage .
