Steve Scott (1982)

Steve Scott (actually: Steven Michael Scott ; born May 5, 1956 in Upland , California ) is a former American middle and long distance runner .

Career

His special route was the mile run , in which he stayed under 4 minutes 136 times, more often than any other runner. His 1982 US record for this distance was only broken by Alan Webb in 2007 .

In 1980 he won the US elimination match over 1500 m for the Olympic Games in Moscow , where he did not start because of the US boycott of the games.

In 1983 he won silver over the same distance at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki behind Steve Cram . At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles he was tenth, at the 1987 World Cup in Rome twelfth and at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul fifth.

From 1986 to 1988 he won the Carlsbad 5000 three times in a row and set a world best time in the 5 km road race with his first and third victory .

Steve Scott is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine . In 1994 he got testicular cancer but was cured. Since then he has been working as a trainer. He lives with his wife in Carlsbad and has two sons.
