Jozef Plachý

Jozef Plachý (born February 28, 1949 in Košice ) is a former Slovak middle-distance runner who started for Czechoslovakia .

Life

Over 800 m he was fifth at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, won silver at the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1969 and was sixth at the 1971 European Championship in Helsinki.

In 1972 he won over 800 m gold at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Grenoble and reached the semi-finals at the Olympic Games in Munich . In the following year he won bronze over 800 m at the European Indoor Championships in Rotterdam and silver in the 4 x 720 m relay with the Czechoslovak team.

Another bronze medal over 800 m at the Indoor European Championships 1974 in Gothenburg was followed by fourth place over this distance at the Indoor European Championships 1975 in Katowice. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he was eliminated over 800 m in the run.

Over 1500 m he won gold at the Universiade in 1977 and was sixth at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. In 1977 he won the World Student Games over 800 m.

Nine times he was Czechoslovakian champion over 800 m (1968, 1969, 1971-1977) and twice over 1500 m (1978, 1980). In the hall he became US champion over 1000 yards in 1972 and Czechoslovakian champion over 1500 m in 1979.
