Axel Weber (athlete)

Axel Weber (born May 19, 1954 in Jena ; † May 29, 2001 there ) was a German pole vaulter who started for the GDR .

At the Athletics World Cup he was third in 1977 in Düsseldorf and sixth in Montreal in 1979 .

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, he was eliminated from the qualification. In 1981 he came fifth at the World Cup in Rome .

He was GDR champion five times ( 1976 , 1977 , 1979 , 1980 , 1981 ) and four times GDR indoor champion ( 1979 , 1980 , 1981 , 1982 ). He set his personal best of 5.50 m on May 31, 1980 in Potsdam .

Axel Weber started for SC Motor Jena .
