from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The GDR indoor athletics championships were held for the 17th time in 1980 and took place from January 26th to 27th in the Senftenberg sports hall Aktivist , in which the champions were determined in 25 disciplines (15 men / 10 women).

In the men’s category, four athletes ( Straub (1500 m), Munkelt (60 m hurdles), Weigel (20 km walking) and Schauerhammer (pentathlon)) managed to defend their title from the previous year, which in the women’s one athlete ( Slupianek ( Ball)) succeeded. The ASK Vorwärts Potsdam was the most successful team in this championship with five titles.

Already on January 13th , the all -around fighter Christine Laser set a new GDR indoor pentathlon performance.
