from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Detlef Wagenknecht won over 800 meters in the new GDR indoor best time.

The GDR indoor athletics championships were held for the 20th time in 1983 and took place from February 19th to 20th in the Senftenberg sports hall Aktivist , in which the champions were determined in 28 disciplines (16 men / 12 women). For the first time, the men and women ran the 200-meter run .

For the men, two athletes ( Zauber (1500 m) and Behmer (three)) managed to defend their title from the previous year, which for the women was two athletes in three disciplines ( Göhr (60 m and 100 yards) and father (pentathlon) ) succeeded. With five championship titles, SC Dynamo Berlin was the most successful team in these championships.

The 23-year-old Hansjörg Kunze took care of the sporting highlights with the indoor world record in the 5000 meter run and Marlies Göhr with the equalization of the indoor world record over 100 yards. Detlef Wagenknecht set up new top performances in the GDR hall in the 800-meter run and Bettine Jahn over 60 m hurdles.

Already on January 28th and 29th , the all -around fighter Anke Vater set a new GDR indoor pentathlon performance.
