Bernd von Münchow-Pohl

Bernd von Münchow-Pohl (born August 19, 1955 in Braunschweig ) is a German diplomat .

education

After graduating from high school in 1974 in Gifhorn, von Münchow-Pohl began studying history and German at the Georg-August University of Göttingen and between 1976 and 1977 did community service at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in New York City . After completing his studies in 1980 with the scientific examination for teaching at secondary schools, in 1981 he worked as a teacher at the Lower Saxony State Police School (LPSN) in Hann. Münden . He then worked from 1982 to 1984 as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for the History (MPIG) in Göttingen and graduated there in 1985 and his doctorate Dr. phil. with the dissertation Between Reform and War. Investigation of the state of consciousness in Prussia 1809 - 1812 . He then worked from 1985 to 1986 as a supervisor at the Federal Association of Lebenshilfe in Berlin .

career

In 1986, von Münchow-Pohl began his preparatory service for the higher foreign service and, after graduating, worked at the embassy in South Korea between 1988 and 1991 and then from 1991 to 1994 at the embassy in the USA . After being employed at the headquarters of the Foreign Office between 1994 and 1997 , he was permanent representative of the Ambassador to Jamaica from 1997 to 2001 . After his return he was Deputy Head of Division in the Foreign Office between 2001 and 2005 and Head of the Economic Services at the Embassy in India from 2005 to 2008 . Thereupon von Münchow-Pohl was head of the Germany Center of the embassy in the USA between 2008 and 2011 and then visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, DC from 2011 to 2012 , before he was head of division at the Foreign Office between 2012 and 2015. In July 2015, von Münchow-Pohl succeeded Michael Feiner as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Niger . In 2018 he moved to the German Embassy in Kingston (Jamaica) as ambassador .
