GDR indoor athletics championships 1987
The GDR indoor athletics championships were held for the 24th time in 1987 and took place from February 7th to 8th in the Senftenberger Sporthalle Aktivist , in which the champions were determined in 29 disciplines (16 men / 13 women).
For the men, seven athletes succeeded in eight disciplines ( Bringmann (60 m and 100 yards), Prenzler (200 m), Schersing (400 m), Herold (1500 m), Pietz (rod), Timmermann (ball) and Voss ( Heptathlon)) to defend her title from the previous year, which four women athletes in five disciplines ( Göhr (60 m), Drechsler (100 yards and wide), Obst (3000 m) and Oschkenat (60 m hurdles)) succeeded. With seven titles, SC Dynamo Berlin was the most successful team at the championships.
Heike Drechsler provided the sporting climax when she set a new indoor world record over 100 yards in the final. In the run-up, she already equalized her best performance from the previous year. Katrin Wühn in the 1500 meter run and Susanne Beyer in the high jump ensured new GDR indoor best performances . Gerd Wessig equalized the GDR indoor best performance in the high jump.
Already on January 30th and 31st , the all -around fighter Torsten Voss set a new GDR indoor record in the heptathlon.
