Ralf Pönitzsch (born October 20, 1957 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a former German athlete who - starting for the German Democratic Republic (GDR) - took part in the 1980 Olympic Games.

Pönitzsch won the GDR championships in the 3000 meter obstacle course in 1976 at the age of 18 . His time of 8: 31.2 minutes meant a junior world record, two weeks later he improved his record in Warsaw to 8: 29.50 minutes. In 1977 he was able to successfully defend his championship title. After Pönitzsch did not take part in the GDR championships in 1978, he won two championship titles in 1979: in addition to the obstacle course, he was also victorious in the 5000 meter run . In 1980 Pönitzsch was runner-up behind Hansjörg Kunze in the indoor arena over 3000 meters , but shortly afterwards he won the cross-country championship. At the Olympicsin Moscow he was eliminated in advance. In 1981 Pönitzsch won his last championship title on the obstacle course.
