Scott Neilson

Scott Neilson (born January 31, 1957 ) is a former Canadian hammer thrower .

He won bronze at the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City.

In 1977 he was fifth at the Athletics World Cup in Düsseldorf , in 1978 he won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton , and in 1979 he won the Pan American Games in San Juan .

The boycott of Canada prevented participation in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. Neilson won the alternate Liberty Bell Classic.

In 1981 he finished fourth at the World Cup in Athletics in Rome .

He was four times Canadian champion (1976, 1978-1980) and once US champion (1979). From 1976 to 1979 he was starting four times in a row NCAA champion for the University of Washington ; three times he won the NCAA weight long throw title in the hall (1977–1979).

His national record of 72.70 m, which he set in Seattle on April 1, 1978 , lasted until 2005.
