Albert Holl
Albert Holl (born April 5, 1890 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ; † May 27, 1970 ibid) was a German engraver , medalist and sculptor .
Life
Albert Holl was born in Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1890. His father was a teacher at the Gmünder Gewerbeschule , which Albert Holl attended from 1907 to 1912 after training as a steel engraver. After a stay in Paris in 1911/12, he attended the arts and crafts school in Munich in 1913/14 . During the First World War, the officer's leg was crushed in 1915 in the Argonne , which was then amputated. From 1922 he headed the sculpture class of the State Higher Technical School for Precious Metals in Schwäbisch Gmünd, where he also received the title of professor.
In 1922, Holl became head of the sculpture class at the State Higher Technical School for Precious Metals in Schwäbisch Gmünd, where he was also appointed professor. Until his retirement in 1955, he taught in Schwäbisch Gmünd.
Works (selection)
- 1951: Among the best known works is the so-called "Silver Eagle", the 1951 has a circulation of 260 million copies of the to 1974 Deutsche Bundesbank issued 5- DM - Kursmünze
- 1963: Medal with the portrait of John F. Kennedy on the occasion of his visit to the Federal Republic of Germany , on the reverse with the coat of arms of the then federal capital Bonn and the coat of arms of Berlin
- 1966, 1967: Medal (with variants of the mint) for the 90th birthday, then for the death of Konrad Adenauer
- 1969: Medal with the portrait of Wernher von Braun , on the reverse with the spaceships of Apollo 11 over the moon, on the occasion of the moon landing in 1969
- 1988 ( posthumous ): Silver medal with a portrait of Carl Benz , on the reverse with Bertha Benz at the wheel of the Benz patent motor car number 3 1888 during the first successful long-distance drive in an automobile from Mannheim to Pforzheim
