The railway line Wuppertal-Oberbarmen-Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen (also known as Schwarzbachtrasse ) is a z. Partly disused rail link in Wuppertal .

Routing

The line runs from the Wuppertal-Oberbarmen station initially parallel to the main tracks of the Elberfeld – Dortmund line , before branching off to the southeast together with the tracks of the Wuppertal-Oberbarmen – Opladen line. There, however, it branches off quickly to the east and crosses the main railway tracks by means of a bridge, very close to the Wuppertal-Langerfeld stop . Directly behind this is the junction to the Wuppertal-Langerfeld freight yard . Up to this point the route will continue to be used and will be listed under route number 2701 . Originally, however, the tracks continued from here in a large curve to Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen station . Numerous engineering structures were driven on this way, so u. a. the Wichlinghauser Tunnel and the Schwarzbach Viaduct . For a route length of just over 3 km, a total of five bridges and a tunnel are quite unusual due to the mountainous relief of the Wuppertal but quite logical.

history

On February 3, 1890, the line was opened by the Prussian State Railroad . The connection of the coal railway to the main railway was of particular importance . In addition, passenger trains that ran on the Wuppertal-Wichlinghausen-Hattingen railway line were also used . T. tied through to Oberbarmen . After the regular passenger traffic was shut down at the end of 1979, the connecting curve was only used for transfer trips and the popular special trips “Around Wuppertal” . Despite the low level of use, the Schwarzbach viaduct was extensively renovated in 1981. In 1996, freight traffic was finally shut down, and the line between Langerfeld and Wichlinghausen two years later. The section up to the junction to the Wuppertal-Langerfeld freight yard will continue to be used.

At the moment (December 2018) the former railway line is being converted into the Schwarzbachtrasse by the Wuppertal Movement Association. The footpath and bike path will serve as an eastern extension of the northern railway line .
