The Remscheid- Güldenwerth train station is located in the southwest of Remscheid in the Bergisch district on the Wuppertal-Oberbarmen-Solingen railway line near the Müngsten bridge .

history

Initially, the Prussian State Railways did not plan to stop at the current location; rather, the remaining railway stations in Remscheid were considered to be sufficient for development. However, through the initiative of the citizens in the surrounding area, the state railways were persuaded to set up a train stop. This was initially provisionally opened on August 8, 1898, previously there was only one alternative point. Many citizens spoke out in favor of the name Remscheid-Reinshagen , but the Prussian Railway Directorate chose the name Remscheid-Güldenwerth . The station building with access to the elevated tracks was not completed until 1901 and opened on October 1, 1901. It was a half-timbered building made of ashlar with a round corner tower. In March 1972 it was demolished - meanwhile in a neglected condition - the signal box in 1973.

The historical platform roofing, however, still exists. It consists of cast iron supports on which a wooden gable roof rests. On August 21, 2001 it was entered in the list of monuments of the city of Remscheid. After the platform level was raised in 2006, the base of the supports is no longer visible. In addition to the platform tracks, there is also a siding. To the west of the station there were several loading tracks and a head ramp. These tracks were removed in 2001.

Several companies had closing tracks in the area of the station. Two sidings are still available today (2015).

The station was always just a local transport stop.
