The Dortmund-Lütgendortmund station is a single-track, underground situated railhead . The platform can be reached by stairs, escalator or elevator. Operationally, it is also called Dortmund-Lütgendortmund S-Bahn to distinguish it from the former Dortmund-Lütgendortmund train station .
History and expansion plans
The S-Bahn station was put into operation on May 23, 1993 as part of the extension of the S-Bahn line S 4 (in the network of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr ) to the Lütgendortmunder Markt. The closest bus stop was given the new name Dortmund-Lütgendortmund S-Bahnhof , previously it was called Lütgendortmund Markt .
The expansion of the S 4 via its current western end of the line in the Dortmund-Lütgendortmund tunnel was planned for the 2015 S-Bahn network. For this purpose, the single-track tunnel was to be extended to immediately south of the Dortmund-Bövinghausen station, the S4 was to take over the Emschertalbahn route from there to Herne and from there the Herne-Essen branch of the current S2 line. The Emschertal Railway should only run between Herne and Dorsten. The east branch between Dortmund-Bövinghausen and Dortmund Hbf should be served by a new line of the Dortmund Stadtbahn . For a long time the money was available for the expansion of the route to Bövinghausen, but the financing of the operation was not guaranteed. The Emschertalbahn runs between Dortmund-Bövinghausen and Herne every hour, as does the S2 between Herne train station and Essen Hbf, a S-Bahn-compliant twenty-minute cycle that the VRR could only have financed through savings in other places. After the Minister of Transport, Oliver Wittke , took office , all target agreements were initially overturned and reassessed. The route extension was rejected by the integrated overall traffic planning of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, a resubmission is possible from 2015.
Since November 2016, the Dortmund-Lütgendortmund station has not been served due to problems with the class 422 railcars . This restriction has been lifted since August 2017.
Lütgendortmund has other train stations and stops. The former Lütgendortmund train station on the border with Marten and Kley has now completely disappeared and greened; today, the Dortmund-Germania train station is located nearby , after the former Germania colliery . There is also the Dortmund-Lütgendortmund Nord stop on the Emschertal Railway .
