Ardey is a district of the city of Fröndenberg / Ruhr in the Unna district in North Rhine-Westphalia , with around 2200 inhabitants.
history
In 1170 Rabodo von Rüdenberg took over the fiefdom of Ardey. His heirs built Ardey Castle , which was first mentioned in 1176. The castle no longer exists today; only a few remains of the wall are still visible. In 1318 a nobleman was mentioned for the last time in Ardey. Today the Burgberg is cut through by the Unna - Fröndenberg railway line .
On August 1, 1964, the municipalities of Ardey, Dellwig and Langschede merged to form the new municipality of Langschede, which was incorporated into the town of Fröndenberg on January 1, 1968.

today
There is an insurance office, a pizzeria, a bakery, a day-care center and a youth center. The evangelical community center in the center of the village, in which a church service and various events were held twice a month, is closed and was decommissioned in January 2012. A bus transfer to the Evangelical Church in Dellwig has now been set up for parishioners . In 2016 a dormitory and a new development area were built on Ardeyer-Straße. The largest company in Ardey is a poultry farm that is well known in the region and produces farm chickens, some of which are delivered to supermarkets and some of which are offered in chicken vending vehicles within a radius of 30 kilometers. The highlight of village life is the annual shooting festival.
The Sonnenberg primary school goes back to the Ardey-Langschede primary school. After the district boundaries have disappeared, parents are free to register their children at this elementary school.
The state road 673 runs through Ardey from Fröndenberg to Langschede with a connection to the B233. The trains of the Hönnetal-Bahn Unna – Fröndenberg– Menden –Neuenrade stop every hour from 05:44 am to 9:39 pm in each direction (or on weekends sometimes every two hours) at the Ardey stop in the center of the village. During the day, rail traffic is supplemented by bus route 180 from Unna to Fröndenberg.

In Ardey there are various associations, such as a gospel choir, a support association for the village community of Ardey, the rabbit breeding association W124 Ardey eV and a shooting association.
