The Dortmund-Mengede station is the station of the district Mengede in Dortmund . It is located on the main line of the former Cologne-Minden Railway .
investment
Mengeder Bahnhof consists of an area for local passenger traffic and another northwest area for shunting and freight traffic.
Four tracks are available in local passenger traffic. Tracks 1 and 2 (platform 220 m long, 76 cm high) on the route to Dortmund Hbf are served by the regional express line RE3 (" Rhein-Emscher-Express ") and, since December 2019, also the RB 32, tracks 4 and 5 (platform 120 m long, 96 cm high) on the route to Dortmund-Dorstfeld uses the S-Bahn line 2 . The platforms are connected by a pedestrian tunnel. The walkway tunnel has not yet been provided with elevators, so that access is not barrier-free. However, the station has ramps to the platforms and exits.
There are 136 park-and-ride spaces for cars and 16 bicycle boxes in the bike-and-ride concept at the station. An expansion of the capacity of these parking spaces is planned. It is possible to change to bus lines 289, SB24 and NE14 of the Vestische trams and lines 470, 472E, 473, 474, 475 and 482 of the DSW21 . The platform roofing on track 1 and 2 is registered as a monument in the monument list of the city of Dortmund .
In 2019, VRR and Deutsche Bahn extended platform tracks 1 and 2 (regional traffic) from 160 to 220 meters (RRX standard) and renewed the existing sections and the bus shelter. This modification was done as part of the RRX project. In order to create barrier-free access, the platform was extended to the east (exit), the ramp fell away and was replaced by an elevator and a staircase. The protected platform roof will in future cover the newly created part of the platform. Previously, there were considerations to make the platform even longer in order to expand the capacity during rush hours, but this was not taken into account in the plans for the RRX.
In the freight and marshalling yard, coal was mainly handled for firing the nearby Gustav Knepper power station . In the past, coal from the Adolf von Hansemann colliery was also transported here.

Planning
Changeover of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr from 2019
Due to the use of vehicles of the type Stadler Flirt 3 XL, the S-Bahn platform has to be lowered to 76 cm (previously 96 cm) since December 15, 2019. However, this will only be possible in the long term, namely as part of a DB modernization offensive. Before the renovation of the north side of the station, the construction of a third platform in the south of the track field was discussed. This would have made sense for the repeater trips of the S2 (planned as S24 until 2015), as they end in Mengede station. The installation of elevators is also being considered. However, these are not absolutely necessary for barrier-free access, as the entrances already have ramps.
