The Dortmund-Scharnhorst train station is on the route of the former Cologne-Minden Railway between the Dortmund districts of Alt-Scharnhorst and Brackel on Flughafenstrasse. The station is served by the Rhein-Emscher-Express (RE 3) and the Rhein-Hellweg-Express (RE 11), in the early morning and in the evening also by the NRW-Express (RE 1). From here you can travel to Hamm , the Ruhr area and then to Düsseldorf , Cologne and Aachen .
history
In the course of the construction of a freight bypass line between Scharnhorst and Nette to relieve Dortmund's main train station in 1903, the Scharnhorst marshalling yard was also built, whereby passenger traffic was initially only carried out for railway employees. On May 6, 1926, with the construction of the first Dortmund airport located in the immediate vicinity, the station was also available for general passenger traffic and was renamed Dortmund Airport Station . Although the airport only existed at this point until 1959, the station name remained until May 31, 1986. When the station was built, a small reception building with a waiting room, ticket office, luggage storage and bike shed was also built.
In 2019, the platforms were modernized and lengthened as part of the work for the Rhein-Ruhr-Express , equipped with guide strips for the blind and brought from the former 38 to a height of 76 cm above the top of the rails . The steel bridge for pedestrians, which formerly ran east of Flughafenstrasse, was demolished and replaced by a new bridge west of Flughafenstrasse, which, however, only connects the northern platform (track 1). This bridge was equipped with an elevator for barrier-free access. New stairs and a ramp were built in the east between Flughafenstrasse and the platform of platform 2.
Current description
Nowadays the station no longer has a reception building, in its place there is the Dortmund-Scharnhorst (Sf) signal box . The two side platforms are connected by a pedestrian bridge that runs parallel to the road bridge. At the western end of the station there is another pedestrian and cyclist bridge, which also connects both platforms.
