106.9 Radio Gong is a private radio broadcaster from Würzburg and has been on the air since May 8, 1987.

In the first year of its operation, the station was called Radio Gong Mainland and shared its VHF frequency with Radio W1 and Main-Radio (later Charivari.fm , Würzburg). After the commonly used frequency on FM 103.0 MHz was given up, all three local stations in Würzburg received their own frequencies. Radio Charivari on 97.1 MHz, Radio Gong Mainland on 92.1 MHz and Radio W1 received the frequency 95.8 MHz. Radio Gong later changed with another frequency change to 106.9 Radio Gong and broadcasts a 24-hour music program there.

The station plays current music hits from the charts ( slogan : Your home advantage) and provides the Mainfranken region with regional information every half hour (from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.), as well as in Short form following the world news on the hour.

106.9 Radio Gong can be received in Würzburg and in large parts of Lower Franconia on the powerful FM frequency 106.9 MHz (five kilowatts). There is also the option of listening to the station on the cable network. Since July 4, 2017, Radio Gong can also be received via DAB + digital radio on channel 10A in the Würzburg area.

Since July 15, 2007, Radio Gong has been determining the Würzburg Top 30 (initially Top 40), a hit list for the region, which can be heard on Sundays from 6 to 9 p.m. The sales volumes are determined by the Media-Markt in Würzburg and coordinated by the listeners via the Internet. The hit list is updated every week.

Since 2009 Radio Gong has also chosen the coolest community in Main Franconia . In 2009 Gaukönigshofen and in 2010 Himmelstadt prevailed against 19 and 14 other municipalities respectively.
