The Utbremer Straße is a historic street in the Walle district of Bremen , the Utbremen and Westend districts. It leads in a south-east - north-west direction from the north-west junction / Breiten Weg to Waller Heerstraße .

It is divided into the sub-areas:

  • Northwest node to Hansestraße in Utbremen and
  • Hansestrasse to Waller Heerstrasse in the Westend.

The cross streets were named as Juiststraße , Borkumstraße , Norderneystraße depending on an East Frisian island , Nansenstraße after the Norwegian polar explorer Fridtjof Nansen , Lindemanstraße after the journalist Moritz Lindeman , who wrote publications about the North Pole voyages and the North German Lloyd , Hansestraße after the Hanseatic League , the Bremen 1260 joined; Münchener Strasse , Schmalkaldener Strasse, where the Protestant Schmalkaldic League was concluded in 1531 , Lutherstrasse (new 1870) after the reformer Martin Luther , Wittenberger Strasse (new around 1870), where the Reformation began with Luther in 1517, Calvinstrasse after the reformer Johannes Calvin , Zwinglistrasse (new 1870) after the reformer Huldrych Zwingli , Sankt-Magnus-Straße after a canonized St. Magnus, Grenzstraße (new 1868) as the former border between Utbremen and Walle, Bergerstraße (new 1870) after a building contractor, Osterfeuerbergstraße after a local sand dune , where Easter fires were probably burning and Reuterstraße (new 1874) after the Low German writer Fritz Reuter ; otherwise see the link to the streets. history

Name: The street was named after the Waller district of Utbremen and that means outside of Bremen. The Utbremer Feldmark was directly in front of the Bremen city wall , in front of the western gates, the Stephanitor and the Doventor. Utbremen was first mentioned in 1072. In 1848 the Feldmark Utbremen was incorporated.
The path was first mentioned in 1326.

development

The old route was part of the military route from Achim to Lesum . The older maps by Hogenberg from 1588/89 and Dilich from 1603 show fields outside the Doventor in front of the Bremen city wall . The Utbremer Straße led over the old Panzenberg to the village of Walle. The railway lines Weserbahn (1855) and to Geestemünde (1862) strengthened the settlements in Utbremen. New cross streets such as Hansestraße and Haferkamp and many other streets in between were built. In the founding period after 1870/71 a lot was built here, with farms in between. In 1888, after Bremen joined the German Customs Union and the expansion of the free ports , there was rapid construction with rental houses for the workers in the port.

During the Second World War , Utbremen was almost completely destroyed by an air raid in 1944. Reconstruction began in the early 1950s. The Gewoba built in the west of Bremen since around 1955 many social housing.

From the 1930s the road was part of the Reichs- or Bundesstraße 6 , until the federal motorway 27 (A 27) between Bremerhaven and Bremen was completed in 1977.

In 1879 the Great Bremen Horse Railway opened the second horse railway line from Hastedt to Walle, the main features of which still exist today. From 1899 the electrified tram ran from Bremen to Walle-Bogenstraße. From 1901 to 1903, the Bremen tram line was extended to Oslebshausen. This train has been running as Line 2 since 1908, which ended in 1926 after the construction of the depot in Gröpelingen. Around 1939 there was line 10 from Bremen Ost via Hauptbahnhof to Waller Bahnhof.

The Bremen tram has been running along the street from Sankt-Magnus-Straße with lines 2 ( Gröpelingen - Am Brill - Domsheide - Sebaldsbrück ) and 10 (Gröpelingen - Walle - Hauptbahnhof - Sebaldsbrück) since 1971 .

There are mostly two to four-story buildings on the street. A commercial area is located between Utbremer Strasse and the railway tracks in the Norderneystrasse area.
