Patri Friedman , full name Patri Aaron Forwalter-Friedman , (* 29. July 1976 in Blacksburg , Virginia ) is an American political theorist and activist, former Executive Board ( Executive Director ) and former Chairman ( Chairman ) of the Seasteading Institute , mathematician and Computer scientist .

Life

Friedman first studied mathematics and graduated with a BS ; afterwards he graduated as M.Sc. in Computer Science from Stanford University . He then worked as an engineer at Google . From 2008 to 2011 his work focused exclusively on the Seasteading Institute , which is dedicated to the establishment of a new, non-binding and flexible form of states consisting of floating cities from modular units on the high seas (so-called Seasteading ). The residents should be able to join a city of their choice and switch between states. The Seasteading Institute is financed by Peter Thiel , the co-founder of PayPal , among others . In 2011, Friedman moved from the post of CEO to Chairman of the Seasteading Institute in order to additionally take care of the Free Cities Project, which he ran from 2011 to 2012. Friedman's activities in both projects have been suspended since 2012. Since 2013 he has been working again as a software engineer at Google.
