As Mittelmosel is referred to in Germany to about 120 km long section of the flow Mosel , in the state of Rheinland-Pfalz of the city Trier to Reil above cell passes. The subsequent section of the river to the mouth of the Moselle into the Rhine is called the Lower Moselle . The Middle Moselle corresponds to the Bernkastel wine-growing area .

The Middle Mosel landscape is characterized by the many meanders of the river, which has found an exceptionally scenic path here between the low mountain ranges Hunsrück and Eifel in a deeply cut valley with partly steep slopes on which the Moselle wine grows. Down the river, a large number of well-known wine towns line the Middle Moselle , including Schweich , Longuich , Mehring (Mosel) , Klüsserath , Trittenheim , Neumagen-Dhron , Piesport , Brauneberg-Filzen , Lieser , Bernkastel-Kues , Zeltingen-Rachtig , Ürzig , Kinheim , Kröv , Traben -Trarbach and Reil . The Middle Moselle has been shaped by viticulture since Roman times . Even then, the Romans used the Moselle as a transport route for the wine produced here.

Viticulture

Mosel wines of the wine-growing region Mosel are mainly Riesling - white wines . In addition to the Riesling grape, Rivaner / Müller-Thurgau , Pinot Blanc and Kerner can also be found here and there . Although the Mosel is not a classic wine region, the demand will accordingly since the late 1990s also -years increasingly red wines grown as Pinot Noir .

The wineries on the Middle Moselle also offer sparkling wine , wine and fruit brandies and liqueurs . As in all wine-growing regions, they largely market their products themselves and present them in wine or tasting rooms , ostrich taverns and during the warm season at various farm festivals .
