Irina Ionesco

Irina Ionesco (born September 3, 1930 in Paris ) is a French photographer of Romanian descent.

Life

Ionesco was born in Paris to Romanian parents; her mother died in childbirth. She spent part of her childhood in Constanța (Romania); In 1946 she finally returned to France. Initially active as a painter and dancer, she shifted her interest to photography in the 1960s. Since around 1970 she has been internationally known with exhibitions in numerous countries. Her main areas of work are nude and erotic photography .

She is mostly remembered for the revealing nude photos of her daughter Eva Ionesco , which she started when her daughter was only four years old. In 1976 pictures of eleven-year-old Eva appeared in Playboy , at the same age she played an erotic role in the 1977 film Play We Love . In response, Irina was denied custody of her daughter, and Eva grew up with a foster family. After a lawsuit by her daughter in 2012, Irina Ionesco was sentenced to hand over all negatives and € 10,000 in damages.
