Portes du Soleil
Portes du Soleil [ pɔʀtədysɔˈlɛj ] is the name of the French-Swiss winter sports area founded in 1964 in the Haute-Savoie department and in the canton of Valais . In France it includes the ski resorts of Morzine (with Avoriaz ), Châtel , Montriond , La Chapelle-d'Abondance , Saint-Jean-d'Aulps , Les Gets and Abondance , in Switzerland the ski resorts of Champéry , Val-d'Illiez (with Champoussin and Les Crosets ) as well as Morgins and Torgon .
In 2008 the fourth world championship in ski mountaineering was held here.
The name Portes du Soleil ( French for sun gates ) is borrowed from the traditional pass crossing from Les Crosets to Morgins (far right in the picture).

Also in the summer season, over 20 mountain railways are open in the Portes du Soleil area, which open up a large number of hiking trails. In recent years, the Portes du Soleil area has become very popular with mountain bikers . According to self-promotion, the area is the largest bike park in Europe with a length of 600 kilometers.
