history

At the end of the 19th century, 47 people lived in the small hamlet of Morgins. From the 1820s, Morgins developed thanks to the tourist use of its iron-rich water. In the Grand Hôtel des Bains, built in 1846 and demolished in 1981, guests from England, Germany and France spent their spa treatments.

Between 1864 and 1867, the Troistorrents mule track was replaced by a driveway. In 1870 a chapel was built (today the Church of the Assumption).

From 1947 onwards, the construction of the first chairlifts on La Foilleuse and Les Têtes enabled the ski area to develop. In 1961, Morgins was the first ski resort in Switzerland to agree to work with a French winter sports resort ( Châtel ). The foundation stone for the French-Swiss winter sports area Portes du Soleil was thus laid. As a result, the ski area developed in the direction of Champéry (Switzerland) and Châtel.

Today Morgins is a popular ski destination. In summer Morgins offers a large number of hiking trails and a cross-border network of trails for mountain bikers .
