biography

Gaspoz won silver in slalom and bronze in giant slalom at the European Junior Championships in 1979 . In December of the same year he scored points in the World Cup for the first time . In his career, which lasted until 1989, he won six giant slalom and one slalom race in the Ski World Cup. In the 1985/86 season he won the giant slalom classification and thus celebrated the greatest success of his career. The following winter he finished second behind Pirmin Zurbriggen ; Both had reached 102 points, but in the decisive larger number of wins this season, his teammate had one more with three wins. His best placement at a world championship was fifth in slalom at the 1982 Alpine World Ski Championships in Schladming . Gaspoz was not fortunate enough at world championships: In each of the giant slaloms he was on the medal course after the first round, but in 1982 in Schladming he dropped from 2nd to 4th, and in 1987 in Crans-Montana he was even in the lead when he was three Goals in front of the goal crashed and eliminated.
