The Val d'Illiez is an approx. 13 km long side valley in the Monthey district of the Swiss canton of Valais . It is traversed by the Vièze and several streams. It flows into the Rhone valley at Monthey and is bounded in the southeast by the Dents du Midi and in the south by the Dents Blanches . At Troistorrents , the Val de Morgins branches off to the Pas de Morgins , over which the road leads to the French community of La Chapelle-d'Abondance . The political communities of Val d'Illiez are Troistorrents, Val-d'Illiez and Champéry as seen from the valley entrance .

The valley's economy consisted of agriculture, cattle breeding, dairy farming and forestry and turned to spa tourism in the middle of the 19th century, and in the 20th century a strong tourist development began, the ski resorts of the valley became ski resorts with other places, including French ones Portes du Soleil amalgamated . The valley has been accessible since 1908 by the Monthey – Champéry – Morgins Railway (MCM), which has been operated as the Chemin de fer Aigle-Ollon-Monthey-Champéry since 1946 .
