The Vièze is a 22 kilometer long left tributary of the Rhone in the Swiss canton of Valais . The small river is created by the confluence of two small source streams at the Col de Cou above Champéry and flows towards the village center. Shortly before that, the Soufla stream flows into the Vièze. This then flows further in the Val d'Illiez through the municipal areas of Val-d'Illiez and Troistorrents . At Troistorrents, the Vièze de Morgins river , which comes from the Val de Morgins , flows into the river. Shortly thereafter, the Vièze crosses the city of Monthey , where it also flows into the Rhone.

In Monthey the river water was used for dyeing .

The river led around the old castle of Monthey, which is no longer visible today. In 1575, 1647, 1561 and 1686 the Vièze caused serious damage to the city through floods. As a result of violent thunderstorms in Val d'Illiez, the river flooded again on July 5, 1726, more than fifty houses were destroyed. By 1727, a ditch was built through the hill of the old castle to correct the course of the river and in 1733 - after another flood - the river above the hill was channeled.
