Linguère is a city in the central north of Senegal . It is the prefecture of the Linguère department in the Louga region .
Geographical location
Linguère is located 260 kilometers northeast of Dakar in the east of the Louga region . It is 120 kilometers to the regional prefecture of Louga . The city is located in the center of the rain-poor and sparsely populated Ferlo on the middle course of the river Ferlo , which only carries water here in the rainy season and then meanders on the southern edge of the city through an alluvial land over 1000 meters wide. The landscape is shaped by the climatic conditions of the Sahel zone. The urban area covers 14.66 km².
history
Linguère was the end point of a branch of the Dakar – Saint-Louis railway that began in Louga . This branch line was built between 1907 and 1923, but has since been shut down and partially dismantled.

Linguère is on the N 3 national road . This connects the cities of Thiès , Khombole , Bambey , Diourbel , Mbacké , Touba , Dahra in the southwest with Ranérou , Ourossogui and Matam in the east of the country and with the border with Mauritania on the shores of Senegal .
Three and a half kilometers from the city center Linguère away lies east of town on the N3 of the airfield Linguère .
