Martin Lames

Martin Matthias Lames (born February 24, 1959 in Wittlich ) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Lames studied sport, mathematics and philosophy at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz between 1978 and 1983 . From 1986 to 1990 Lames worked at the University of Mainz as a research assistant, during which time (October 1989) he completed his dissertation (title: “Performance diagnostics through computer simulation”).

From 1991 to 1996 he held a position as a university assistant at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . In 1997 he completed his habilitation with Herbert Haag on the subject of "Health Promotion through Sport - Concepts, Methods, Results". From 1996 to 2002 Lames worked at the University of Rostock as a professor of training science as well as theory and practice of sports. In 2002 he was appointed to the professorship for movement and training science at the University of Augsburg and stayed there until 2009. In the same year Lames took over the chair for training science and sports informatics at the Technical University of Munich . From 2003 he was a member of the international association for sports informatics IACSS, from 2011 its general secretary and from 2013 its president.

Between 2008 and 2013 he was a member of the state sports advisory board of the Bavarian state parliament , and in 2010 he became a representative of sports science in the ministerial steering committee "Scientific network system for competitive sport" of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. In 2012 Lames took over the office of spokesman for the sports informatics section within the German Association for Sports Science (DVS), from 2003 to 2007 he was a member of the DVS board. From 2001 to 2011 he was one of the editors of the magazine "Sportwissenschaft".

The focus of Lames' sports science activity is on the topics of training science, sports informatics and sports games. His important publications and editorships in the field of sports informatics include "Informatics in Sport: a Handbook" from 1997, "Modeling in Sport Science" (2002) and the anthology "Knowledge transfer in top-class German sport" from 2007. Lames was the head of sports game research among other things, research projects on the subject of game analysis and observation. In 1994 he published the book "Systematic Game Observation" on this topic.
