Linguère department in the Louga region

The Linguère département with the capital Linguère is one of 45 départements in Senegal . In terms of area, it is the largest of three departments into which the Louga region is divided and occupies its eastern part. It is located in the central north of Senegal in the Ferlo around the central reaches of the Ferlo River . The landscape is shaped by the climatic conditions of the Sahel zone.

Until 2001, the department covered an area of ​​19,716 km². In 2002, the two eastern communautés rurales Vélingara (2585 km²) and Lougré Thioli (1756 km²) moved to the Ranérou-Ferlo department of the newly founded Matam region and the Linguère department shrank to 15375 km². It is divided into arrondissements, communes and rural communities (communautés rurales) as follows:
