Matam is a region in Senegal . The capital is the city of the same name, Matam . Matam is located in northeast Senegal on the border with Mauritania .

For 2013, five arrondissements, 12 municipalities (Communes), 14 rural communities (Communautés rurales), 424 officially registered villages (Villages) and 395 hamlets (hameaux) are to be named on the next structural levels.
