Ranérou is a city in northeast Senegal . It is prefecture of the Ranérou-Ferlo department in the Matam region .

Geographical location

Ranérou is located 380 kilometers east of Dakar and 86 kilometers southwest of the Matam regional prefecture . The urban area is surrounded by the Communauté Rurale de Oudalaye , the largest rural community in Senegal with an area of ​​11,292 km². The town of Ranérou is located in the center of the rain-poor and sparsely populated Ferlo in the valley of the river Ferlo , which only carries water here in the rainy season and has dug a winding river bed about 100 meters wide with partly dense trees on the southern edge of the village. The landscape is shaped by the climatic conditions of the Sahel zone and is only used for extensive animal husbandry .

Ranérou is located between the Réserve de faune du Ferlo Nord and the Réserve de faune du Ferlo Sud . Together these form by far the largest protected areas in nature and landscape protection in Senegal.

Ranérou is on the N 3 national road . It connects Ranérou with the major cities of the metropolitan region Dakar in the west, with Rufisque , Pikine , Guédiawaye and the capital Dakar , and from there continues via Thiès , Khombole , Bambey , Diourbel , Mbacké , Touba , Dahra and Linguère to Ranérou. In the further course it reaches Ourossogui and finally the regional prefecture of Matam on the banks of Senegal and the local border with Mauritania .

Located on the southwestern outskirts of Ourossogui and accessible via the N3, Matam Airport, 75 kilometers from Ranérou, offers a connection to the national air transport network.
