Bambey is a city in the central west of Senegal . It is prefecture of the Bambey department in the Diourbel region .

Bambey is located in the west of the Diourbel region , 23 kilometers from the Diourbel regional prefecture .

The national road N 3 runs through Bambey . It connects Thiès and Khombole in the west with Diourbel , Mbacké , Touba , Dahra , Linguère , Ourossogui and Matam on the border with Mauritania in the east. The N3 runs side by side with the Dakar – Niger railway line , which is important for freight traffic in the peanut basin and with neighboring Mali, through the urban area.

Bambey is connected to the international air transport network via Dakar-Blaise Diagne Airport, 66 km away near Thiès .

The city has a university on the western outskirts with the Université Alioune DIOP de Bambey .
