history

The French colonial administration founded an urban settlement in 1907 and named it Khombole after the village located here. On April 23, 1908, the station was opened, which served mainly as a transshipment point for the transport of the peanut harvest to Rufisque and Dakar . Various French companies settled here and this led to the construction of new city districts from 1909, the streets of which run parallel or at right angles to the railway line like a chessboard.

Khombole achieved the status of a town (commune mixte) on September 25, 1925. In the same year a mosque was built. Since 1966 Khombole has had the legal status of a town (commune) within the meaning of Law No. 66-64 of June 30, 1966 on local self-government .
