Thivars is located about eight kilometers south-southwest of Chartres on the Eure . Thivars is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Fontenay-sur-Eure in the north and northwest, Barjouville in the northeast, Ver-lès-Chartres in the east, Dammarie in the southeast and Mignières in the south and west.

The former Route nationale 10 (today's D910) and the Autoroute A11 to the south lead through the municipality .
